House Rules

Objective

The objective of Island Time is to gain points by answering trivia questions about the Caribbean (Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas, DR, PR, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, & Cuba). The first player to reach 10 points is the winner.

Players:

2-6 players

Deck:

250 Trivia Cards, 50 Wild Cards, 12 Social Cards

Setup:

Each player receives 4 response cards labeled A, B, C, and D. The deck of cards consists of Trivia, Wild, and Social cards. Shuffle the deck and place them in the center of the table.

Gameplay:

Players take turns being the host, starting with the group's choice for the first host.

  • The person who delt or the dealer is the person who starts off as the first host. Each person takes turn in being a host (counter clockwise)
  • The host cannot play a response card during their turn.

The host draws a card from the stack. The host has the possibility of pulling a Trivia, Wild or Social card.

Trivia cards have multiple choice questions with the correct answer or the majority wins.

If the host pulls a trivia card, they must announce if the card is a correct answer or majority rule question, along with reading out load the multiple choice options.

Tie breaker; If there is a tie, who ever who drew will choose the correct answer

  • Players have 6-10 seconds to answer by placing a response card face down.
  • After 6-10 seconds, the host reveals the answers and tallies the results. 'Correct Answer' cards award points to the player who chose the correct answer. 'Majority Wins' cards award points to the most popular answer. Ties are decided by the host.

Wild Cards

  • Wild cards are open-ended questions where the person who drew selects a player to answer and validate their answer. These cards often shift the direction of the game.
  • The player can accept or deny the wild card, losing 2 points if they deny it. (or take a shot)
  • If accepted, the host reads the question and chooses one of three validation options: calling a friend, calling an ex, or the last person in their call log
  • The player must answer aloud before calling and will lose 2 points if their friend does not answer after 2 calls or if their friend's answer differs
  • If their friend agrees, the player earns 2 points
  • The player can not reveal their answer to their friend before their friend has answered the question

Social Cards (tentative name)

When a host pulls a social card, they can select a player to post a question on the player’s chosen social media platform (Twitter, IG, TikTok) with the tag & hashtag #IslandTime & @IslandTime.

If posted, that player gets 3 points. Once posted, the game continues on to the next person's turn (cannot be removed)
